Faculty of E-Learning and Computing

The aim of the Faculty is to ensure that students and staff at East Bergholt High School are autonomous users of ICT and that students develop into creators of IT through Computing.

All Students in Year 7 and 8 students develop their understanding of key skills and our KS3 curriculum aims to ensure students:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  •  can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Currently Year 9 are working towards the Cambridge National Level 1/2 Certificate in ICT.  This gives our students the opportunity to gain a Level 2 qualification by the end of KS3.

Students’ knowledge skills and understanding are applied in other areas of the curriculum whenever ICT is used. The school makes use of the Google Suite of Apps including Google drive for student access to school work and Google classroom for resources and homework.

Students who opt to study the subject further can undertake a demanding GCSE in Computing.  The Faculty also delivers a GCSE in Business Studies.

The school benefits from the availability of the Virtual Learning Environment. This allows work started in school to be further developed at home. This provides students with opportunities for anytime, anywhere learning.

The Faculty offers a wide range of extracurricular activities for all students in Computing and IT. More able students are set challenges to stretch and engage their enthusiasm for the subject.  Lunchtime and afterschool sessions are available for students who need extra help or who aspire to higher achievements. The Faculty also runs clubs, delivered by the students to members of the wider local community.
