Travel Information

Because of our rural location, many of our students travel to School by bus. Students who live within the catchment area are entitled to free transport if they live more than three miles from the School. The School is not responsible for the administration of school transport or travel arrangements and therefore any enquiries should be made to the School Transport Service which is based at County Hall in Ipswich.

At the end of the school day, the loading of buses is supervised by members of the teaching staff.

In the interest of safety, parents who provide their own transport are asked to deposit and collect their children from the car park in front of A Block and never on the road in front of the School. Students who cycle to school can leave their bicycles in the covered sheds provided. Parents are requested to ensure that bicycles are in roadworthy condition and that children can ride them in a safe and courteous manner. Students must wear a cycle helmet.

The school is engaged with representatives from the Safer Routes to School programme and School Travel Plan (STP) scheme which promote more environmentally-sustainable travel to school and encourage improved safety on the school journey.

Important news regarding changes to School Transport from September 2019

Parents and carers should be aware that there are changes to school transport that will affect students, living in Suffolk, in Years 8-11 (current Years 7-10) from September 2019.

These changes have been decided by Suffolk County Council. Details of these can be found at Suffolk on board under the ‘School Travel Bus Pass’ section.

The most significant and immediate change is that parents or carers whose child receives a funded or paid for bus pass will need to ‘opt in’ in order to receive this for use from September.

Please note the deadline for this is May 31st 2019. This ‘opt in’ will need to be made each year in the future.

The www.suffolkonboard.com website has more information about this, including the time frame for ‘opting in’.

Children who are receiving funded school travel in July 2019, continue to attend the same school from September 2019 and live at the same address will continue to receive funded school travel until they leave the school, or move house.

It may be possible to purchase a pass for a closed contract bus (a bus that is not used by the public) at a cost of £750 for the first year of the new scheme. Details of this arrangement can be found on www.suffolkonboard.com . Public buses will not be affected by these changes as parents or carers pay for these directly through the purchase of a weekly ticket.

There are other changes that will affect school transport in the future. Details of these can be found on the ‘Guide to school travel’ section of the website.

Please see www.suffolkonboard.com for answers to any questions you may have about these changes. The School is unable to deal with bus pass enquiries, as these are provided through Suffolk County Council Transport. Suffolk on Board can be contacted on 0345 606 6067 or  customer.service@suffolk.gov.uk
